Minutes of the OVH Club Meeting

February 20, 2006

 

KG4NXT called meeting to order at 2010 Eastern Time.

 

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, all present stated their names and call signs.  There were ?? OVH members present.

 

 

PROGRAM

 

Gordon Miller / NQ4K gave a presentation on the Virginia QSO party.  The party is March 18th & 19th and will operate for 36 hours.  More information is available at www.qsl.net/sterling.    Participation requires you to submit a log to NQ4K@arrl.net with $1.00 for processing and to receive a certificate.  There will be 500 bonus points for contacting K4NVA.

 

 

BUSINESS MEETING

 

ANNUAL OVH OFFICER ELECTION – John / WA1STU and Butch / W4HJL passed out ballots for the annual election.

 

MEMBERSHIP – John / WA1STU - Morgan Jones, who is taking the OVH technician class and does not yet have a license, and Daniel Herschler / KG4CFQ were voted in as OVH members unanimously.  Welcome Morgan and Daniel to the Ole’ Virginia Hams.

 

REPEATER – Art / W1CRO – A receiver is being repaired, George / K4GVT fixed an amplifier, and another is ready to install.  Art has some other repeater projects in the works.

 

HAMFEST – John / KG4NXT – All is going well with planning at this point.  The Hamfest Committee will have a meeting this Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.  We need OVH members to step up to volunteer for the event.  Brian / WC4J has agreed to head up security, Doc / W1IMX will head up the back gate, and John / KG4NXT will head up the front gate.  They are looking to others for assistance.  Steve / N4OGR noted that tables are the same price, but the truck is cost a bit more.

 

ANNUAL OVH OFFICER ELECTION – CONTINUED – The following were elected unanimously as OVH officers for the term from February 2006 through February 2007: President – John / KG4NXT; Vice President – George / K4GVT; Treasurer – Bill / N3OH; and Secretary – Phil / AC4PL.

 

EDUCATION – John / WA1STU – The class started last weekend with six students.  There could be seven by next weekend.  Al / KB4BHB, John / KG4NXT and Bob / KI4IST were at the first class to help out.  Special thank once again go to Bob / KI4IST for arranging for an excellent classroom at Strayer University.  A Technician exam will take place on April 22, 2006 for the students in the class and anyone else interest.  This will be a Technician-only exam.

 

 

BREAK

 

The 50-50 drawing was won by Al / KB4BHB.

 

Bill / N3OH read the Treasurer’s report.

 

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

Bill / N3OH and Al / KB4BHB noted that key personnel at the Manassas National Battlefield Park have been contacted regarding the day and location for the upcoming Special Event.  The will occur on August 26, 2006 to commemorate the 2nd battle of Bull Run / 2nd Battle of Manassas (depending on one’s perspective).  The location will be on Brownsville Road.  Those who participate and who do not have hold an annual National Parks Pass or annual Manassas National Battlefield Park pass will be charged the usual Park entry fee of $3.00.  Brian / WC4J will bring his bus and tower, as well as Club equipment.  We are planning to issue participation certificates as we did for the special event in 2001.

 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Bill / N3OH has five new computers that were donated to the OVH by Bill’s company.  Thank you Bill and Bill’s company for this generous donation..
