Minutes of the OVH Club Meeting

March 19, 2007

 

 

George / K4GVT called meeting to order at 1934 Eastern Time.

 

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, all present stated their names and call signs.  There were 22 OVH members present.

 

BUSINESS MEETING

 

MINUTES-The minutes of the February 2007 meeting were approved.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT- Bill/WA4FIC presented the report; balance is in good standing.  Report approved.  George/K4GVT offered the 2007 budget for review.

 

REPEATER- Butch/W4HJL & Art/W1CRO- repeaters are working, “all looks good, we’re cranking.”

 

COMMITTEE REPORT: 

 

HAMFEST:  Butch/W4HJL -need a bake sale volunteer.  Need tailgate volunteers.  Committee-wise, we look good.  Butch will send list of names of volunteers to date.

 

FIELD DAY: Need volunteers (Butch/W4HJL so far).  Al/KB4BHB & John (KG4NXT):  Bucket of rope from last year may have poison ivy and should be disposed of (gray plastic rope).  Plenty of rope is available for this year’s field day.  

 

MEMBERSHIP REPORT- Two read in last time: Robert Ayers (RJ) (K8WTF) and Chris Allen (KI4POT).  They were voted in unanimously-WELCOME RJ/Chris! 

 

TRAINING:  General class- Mark WA4KFZ indicated that he’d spearhead a General class.  Mary offered PowerPoint package for tech class.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS- $1K allocated for scholarships this year.  Jim/W4JTP sent out notices to local HS counselors.

 

Program-Any desires, make them known.  George/ K4GVT said there may be a future presentation of a J-pole being soldered-up during the meeting.

 

Old Business:  N3OH were preparing for the second Manassas event (25 Aug).  Details forthcoming via website; Brian will offer his trailer again.  Al presented the draft of the certificate (made by Elizabeth, John’s (KG4NXT) daughter/ KG4NXV).  This year’s setup will be located at Strayer College.  Will need to use our own generator.

 

New Business:  David/KI4AZX- Mini Tri-Athalon, this Sunday at Freedom Center.  More volunteers please!  Begins at 6:30am.  [This action was completed successfully; details at April’s meeting] 

 

QST will be advertising our Ham Fest—thank you Butch/W4HJL.

 

Bill/N3OH will edit the webpage of our paid-up Vendors (Ham Fest)-will get that data from Dave/KI4AZX.

 

Steve-everyone happy w/ the Reflector?  There were no negative comments.

 

New Business:

 

ISS contact.  Cedar Point Elementary on 16th/17th April.  This will be a telebridge to Australia where the contact will be made.  There is concern for safety of the antennas to be left overnight.  Volunteers and suggestions to present to the kids to sell ham radio are requested; suggestions include a D-star demonstration; fox hunt; moon bounce; ATV; APRS.

 

Steve/N4OGR: National night out Sat Aug 4th, if we’d like to support. 

 

Bill/N3OH: Upgrading the web server should anyone notice it slow. 

 

50/50- $29 was collected; Butch W4HJL won and donated all back to the Club.  Thanks Butch.
