Minutes of the OVH Club Meeting

June 19, 2006

George / K4GVT called meeting to order at 2000 Daylight Savings Time.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, all presented stated their names and call signs. There were 20 OVH members present.

MINUTES: The minutes from the May 2006 OVH meeting were approved with the following corrections: Mark/WA4KFZ and David/KI4AZX both had their calls stated incorrectly.

TREASUERER’S REPORT: The Treasurer’s report was presented by Butch / W4HJL. The report was approved.

COMMITTEES

REPEATERS: Butch / W4HJL stated that the amplifier on 440 repeater was not working and the back up 440 repeater was in use. This repeater has an output of 20 watts. Other repeaters are working fine.

HAMFEST - Butch / W4HJL: 2006 Hamfest results: Total Income $11,384, Expenses $7880, Hamfest Profit $3,504. Butch expressed thanks to all who made our hamfest a success.

MEMBERSHIP – John / WA1STU: OVH voted in three new members with a unanimous vote. Welcome to Christopher Akers/KI4OBU, Robert Friend/KC4TNC and Tom Trump/KI4JPY. Also 4 members were read in and will be voted on at the next meeting. Next month we will have a new membership chairman Joe/KI4OHR. We thank John for his service and Joe for taking over the chairmanship of this committee.

WEEEKLY NET –No report.

ARES – David / KI4AZX: The Manassas Tri-it-Now group will be having their summer mini-triathlon on Sunday, August 13^th and volunteers are needed to help with communications. ARES bimonthly training will be on August 19^th. More details to follow. The club’s special event on the Manassas Battlefield will be on Saturday, August 26^th as well as a Skywarn Basic Class.

BPL – George / K4GVT: George received a letter from the FCC which was also sent Comtek and the city of Manassas stating that Comtek was causing interference beyond what was permissible and was ordered to take steps to correct the problem. We will continue to monitor this situation.

FIELD DAY – John / WA1STU: All is looking well for Field Day which is June24th and 25^th to be held at Nokesville Regional Park. There will be a cookout on June 24^th at 6 PM at OVH will be supplying the burgers. Joe/KI4OHR and Phil/AC4PL will be the club chefs for this part of the festivities. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish or dessert (or both). Antenna placement planning will be on Friday, June 23^rd at 4 PM at the Field Day Site. Actual set- up will start at 8:30 AM on Saturday, June 24^th. We hope to see all members and their families and friends there.

SCHOLARSHIP-George/K4GVT: OVH received a graduation announcement from Brian Myhre who is one of our past scholarship winners. He is graduating from MIT with a BS in Electrical Engineering. We wish Brian good luck in all of his future endeavors.

New Business:

Brian/WC4J reminded everyone that when on the air we need to identify ourselves every 10 minutes and at the end of our transmissions.

Steve/N4OGR reminded us about the club’s role as a member of Fleet Watch.
