 Latest Announcements and Events:

             NEXT REGULAR OVH MEETING: Monday, June 17, 2013 at 19:30.

             OVH's 39th Manassas Hamfest successfully completed! Come back
             next year (June 8, 2014) for the 40th Manassas Hamfest!
             
             The OVH / ARRL Field Day event this year will occur on Saturday 
             and Sunday, June 22nd - 23rd at the same location as last year,
             next to the Central Community Library at the corner of Conner Dr.
             and Centreville Road, Manassas. This is a major "fun" event and
             all OVH members (and non-members) in the area are invited to 
             stop by. More details about this below and more will be posted. 
        
             A new link to downloadable and printable PDF file with summary 
             information about the OVH is now posted here. This is intended
             primarily for new visitors to this web site.

             OVH members - the Club Members page here has a hyperlink to 
             a "Members Only" web page which has separate lists of all active 
             members, with detailed contact information for each. The separate 
             lists are collated by FirstName, CallSign, and LastName, making 
             it very easy to find anyone, and were last updated in mid-May. 
             
             New OVH members or members with new email addresses: be sure to 
             register your email address for the "closed" OVH email reflector 
             system. How to do that is explained are on the OVH Nets page here.

             Membership Application and Renewal Forms for 2013 are posted 
             and downloadable on the OVH Membership Application page here. 
             Details are also provided there for a new procedures for paying 
             renewal dues online. There is now a link on OVH Members page
             with additional information available for active Members Only.

  • This will be a major FUN demonstration of capabilities and operating and social event for 2013
  • All are invited to attend: OVH members, non-member hams and any & all other interested folks

  • Setup Saturday at 9:00 am, radio operating begins 2:00 pm, non-stop until Sunday afternoon.

  • Training Course in April 2013 for your
    General Class Ham Radio License!

  • This General Class course is designed for individuals who already have a Technician Class License
  • Upgrading from the Technician Class to the General Class results in much greater operator privileges.
  • The course is scheduled for four evenings, beginning 4/2/2013 and ending on 4/30/2013
  • Classes will held from 7:00 pm to 9:00pm on each of four Tuesday evenings
  • The evening classes are on: 4/2/2013; 4/9/2013; 4/23/2013 and 4/30/2013
  • Classes will be held at the Red Cross Training Center, 9930 Liberia Avenue, Manassas
  • No charge to attend, but attendees will need to purchase or borrow a copy of the ARRL guidebook
  • A VEC examination for the FCC license upgrade will be given about a week after the course ends
  • The VEC examination (open to the public) for the FCC exam is now tentatively scheduled for May 7, 2013

  • HSMM Presentation by Bill Fenn / N4TS at
    the 2/18/2013 OVH Meeting!

  • Bill Fenn / N4TS from AMRAD gave a short presentation about HSMM at the 2/19/2013 OVH Meeting
  • HSMM is a high speed mesh network system which can be implemented with off the shelf routers
  • Custom HSMM software (open source) is also required to implement such a system.
  • Ham radio operators have been experimenting with HSMM systems for about 10 years.
