2005 OVH SCHOLARSHIP WINNER
Alexa Jones
Alexa just completed her final year at Osbourn High School with a 4.192 GPA. She graduated 15th out of 411 seniors.
Alexa is a member of Symphonic Band, the Jazz Band, and Flute Choir, and a section leader for the Marching Band. So not surprisingly, Alexa is also Band Council President. This is an elected position responsible for orchestrating fundraisers and social activities for all Osbourn Bands.
Alexa has done a lot of community service work. In the Girl Scouts, she helped translated Braille for visually disabled children. She’s participated in many activities with her bands, the National Honor Society, and Buckhall United Methodist Church. With members of her church, Alexa spent a week in North Carolina doing yard and housework for elderly and needy people. And if you remember seeing people helping clear debris after the tornados last September, that was Alexa and other members of the Osborn School Band.
These experiences--along with having lived with her family in California; London England; and now Virginia--have deeply influenced who Alexa is. As she said in her application, "I feel very lucky to have experienced so many different people and cultures. I have also been fortunate to have a great family within the community and church. With them, I have had the opportunity to serve those who are less fortunate..."
Alexa is on her way to Virginia Tech, where she plans to major in Electrical Engineering. Her career goal is to design and maintain systems in aerospace vehicles. She also hopes to mentor other young women like herself who aspire to careers in engineering.
